Russell Wilson Not Ready To Pass Torch To Kyler Murray Just Yet

Thursday Night Football is not typically entertaining. But this Thursday, the game between the Seattle Seahawks (7-3) and Arizona Cardinals (6-4) was as advertised. Seattle never trailed, but Arizona stayed within striking distance throughout the game.

Russell Wilson isn't ready to pass the torch as the best quarterback in the NFC East just yet.

Kyler Murray had a respectable performance. The former No. 1 overall pick completed 29 of his 42 pass attempts (69.1 percent) for 269 yards and two touchdowns without committing a turnover. His 15 yards on five carries was a season-low, however.

In fact, the Cardinals had only 57 total rushing yards on the night.

The reason? A Seahawks defense that was at its best. The mid-season acquisition of former Cincinnati Bengal Carlos Dunlap was a godsend. Murray was sacked three times, and Dunlap was responsible for two of them.

He's been exactly what Seattle needed -- a nice exterior pass-rushing option.

The Seahawks also finally got a complementary run game to go with Wilson's efficient passing performance. The running backs combined for 123 yards and a score on 21 carries, good for a 5.9-yard average.

Another Carlos, this time Carlos Hyde, was the main contributor. Following a multi-week absence due to injury, the journeyman running back rushed for 79 yards and that lone touchdown on 14 carries.

In other words, Wilson had help from his defense and his run game on Thursday night, and it resulted in Seattle grabbing a 28-21 win over a division foe. That's particularly important considering the Seahawks had lost three of the last four games.

The victory also puts the team in first place in the NFC West.

There will probably come a day when Murray takes over as the best quarterback in that division. But with Wilson continuing his elite efficiency while creating with his arm and legs, that day might not be anytime soon.
