Rodgers Called Complicated By Pack Prez
Rather than sing his praises, Packers President Mark Murphy is throwing Avril Lavigne-like shade at the NFL’s reigning MVP, calling him a “complicated fella”, per NBC26 in Green Bay. Stumble into a Wisconsin area karaoke bar and there’s a chance you’ll see Murphy crooning Lavigne’s debut single, “Complicated” in Rodgers’ direction. Lavigne famously belted out:
“Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're acting like you're somebody else.
Gets me frustrated.”
For Murphy and the Pack, that frustration is becoming hard to hide. Rodgers requested a trade months ago and Green Bay is yet to entertain the idea of letting the future Hall of Famer play elsewhere. Meanwhile, Rodgers remains away from the team, refusing to rescind his trade demand. He also skipped the team’s mandatory minicamp earlier this month.
Speaking at a Lambeau Field event earlier this week, Murphy referenced conversations that he and former general manager Ted Thompson had regarding Rodgers: “ often talked about Aaron, that he’s a … and it wasn’t just Aaron, a lot of different players. He would say ‘He’s a complicated fella. So, I’ll just say that.” said Murphy.
Prior to the Lambeau event, Murphy engaged in a Q&A with the Packers’ website. His comments went over about as well as a basket of cold cheese curds: “The situation we face with Aaron Rodgers has divided our fan base,” wrote Murphy. “The emails and letters that I’ve received reflect this fact. As I wrote here last month, we remain committed to resolving things with Aaron and want him to be our quarterback in 2021 and beyond. We are working to resolve the situation and realize that the less both sides say publicly, the better.”
There’s been no official comment from the Rodgers camp on Murphy. The quarterback’s previous actions suggest that if he were to issue a karaoke rebuttal towards Murphy, he’d take a stab at a later verse of Lavigne’s “Complicated”:
“You're watching your back.
Like you can't relax.
You try to be cool.
You look like a fool to me”
Green Bay opens training camp in late July. Whether or not Rodgers will be under center for the Packers remains a complicated issue.
