Richard Sherman Injury Adds To Bucs’ Secondary Woes

The defending champion Buccaneers have done two things consistently this fall: win games and lose defensive backs to injury. Last night, they once again stayed the course, besting Philadelphia 28-22 and losing recently-signed cornerback Richard Sherman to injury in the first quarter.

"We'll just keep playing with the guys we've got, and see what happens," head coach Bruce Arians said post game. "See how long of an injury it is. And next man up."

Sherman, who was playing in just his second game with Tampa Bay, addressed the injury Friday afternoon via his Twitter account.

"Disappointed. Going to bounce back soon. Asked a lot from my body in a short amount of time. Will be back better."

Prior to Sherman's injury, the Buccaneers were already without their top three corners and starting safety Antoine Winfield Jr, and the lack of healthy bodies in the secondary hasn't gone unnoticed.

"We most definitely missed the presence of every guy who's hurting, injured and hasn't been able to play," linebacker Shaq Barrett said after the win on Thursday. "We miss those guys for sure."

Fortunately for Tampa, they have until October 24th to rest those banged up bodies before their next game.

"We really need this rest and hopefully we'll see who we can get back, if anybody," added Arians. "But the ones who have been playing, they definitely need a timeout."

Despite their injury woes, Tampa Bay has found a way to survive the first six games of their season relatively unscathed. The Bucs sit comfortably atop the NFC South standings at 5-1.
