Ravens WR Marquise Brown Says Team Needs To Be More Balanced On Offense In 2021
Are the Baltimore Ravens on the verge of finally getting things right on offense when they take the field in 2021?
Or is it going to be another tough season in which they will win enough games to make the playoffs, only to then falter in the postseason when they can't score enough points against an elite AFC defense?
That's the big question in Baltimore once again. The season is now just a few months away, and one player who says that the club will get it done on offense in 2021 is wide receiver Marquise Brown.
The former first-round pick by the Ravens (25th overall) back in the 2019 NFL Draft has not kept quiet about the Ravens' issues on offense the last two seasons. He clearly wants to see things turn around ASAP so that the team will be in an even better spot to make the Super Bowl.
"I let the outside be the outside when they talk," Brown said via the team website.
"We're the Ravens. If it's the scheme, if it's the players, that's on us. We're going to get it right. That's why we're out here now, to get it right."
The Ravens have been a serious run-first team the last couple of seasons under dual-threat QB Lamar Jackson, and many teams around the league have had little success stopping the Ravens' run game.
The problem is that sometimes they need to score quickly, as they did in the playoff game in Buffalo in January. The Ravens found themselves down 17-3 and unable to do enough to get back into the game in a hurry.
They were the top-ranked rushing offense in 2020, just as they were when they set the record back in 2019. That's all fine and dandy, but their passing game was ranked last, so the team HAS to find a way to be more consistent.
Brown has averaged 52 catches and 676 yards receiving over his first two seasons, which is fine, but they aren't the huge numbers that a No. 1 wide out can put up after a couple of years.
"We've been gelling good so far," Brown said. "We're just going to try to complement each other the best we can, go out here and win a Super Bowl."
"Our expectation is to score a lot of points," Brown said. "However we do that, with the least amount of passing attempts or with the most. We want to score as many points as we possibly can."
