Ravens TE Andrews Talks About Contract Extension, Off Field Distractions On Deal
The Baltimore Ravens offense has been built around quarterback Lamar Jackson, but if there's another player who the team has placed a lot of focus on, it's tight end Mark Andrews.
In 2021, Andrews will enter the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, meaning that if he doesn't get a deal in place, he'll be able to ink anywhere he wants after the season.
The tight end already watched offensive lineman Orlando Brown Jr. bail on the Ravens and ink with the two-time AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
It's a fate that Andrews does not want in 2021.
"I love Baltimore. I love being here, I love playing here," Andrews said after Tuesday's OTA practice.
"I want to be here for the rest of my life; this is home for me. That's where I'm at. I want to be the best player for this team."
The 25-year-old tight end pulled in 156 catches in his first three years in the NFL, with 2,105 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Andrews is likely the best tight end that the Ravens have had on their roster since Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, who played in Baltimore for just two seasons in 2000 and 2001, but helped the team win a Super Bowl before going back to Denver to wrap up his career.
Andrews says that he's not going to let what could become a major off the field distraction bother him as he gets ready for the 2021 season.
"You can't worry about too much about the outside noise and what happens with that," he said. "I'm just going to let my play speak for itself."
