Ravens Make Quick Splash, Agree To Terms With OL Kevin Zeitler

The Baltimore Ravens struggled to replace former All-Pro right guard Marshal Yanda this past season. After 13 seasons with the franchise, the potential Hall of Famer rode off into the sunset, and the offensive line took a hit as a result.

D.J. Fluker was serviceable, but he wasn't the same caliber of player as Yanda. Maybe the team's next starting right guard will be. If not, hopefully he will be close.

According to a tweet from Adam Schefter with ESPN, the Ravens have reached an agreement with free agent guard Kevin Zeitler. The former New York Giant will sign a three-year, $22.5 million deal to continue his playing career in Baltimore.

Baltimore is plenty familiar with Zeitler.

The 31-year-old is a former first-round pick who was selected by a divisional rival, the Cincinnati Bengals. After spending five seasons there, he signed with the Cleveland Browns and spent two years there before being traded to the New York Giants.

In other words, this will be the third AFC North roster Zeitler has played on.

It's a great fit too. While mobile and elusive, Lamar Jackson can win from the pocket as long as the protection can hold up. The play at right guard was spotty last season, especially after the offensive line lost starting left tackle Ronnie Stanley for the season.

Stanley will be back, but Orlando Brown Jr. now wants out after shifting from right tackle to left. Zeitler won't be a Brown replacement, but he does beef up that side and lessens the impact of potentially losing Brown.

This is a great deal for Zeitler, and it's a great deal for Baltimore.

Plus, Zeitler was cut by the Giants, so he will not count against the compensatory model. That's how this franchise has operated for a long time, and it's treated them well.
