Rams Don't View Von Miller As Rental
After Von Miller was dealt to the Rams on Monday, some speculated his stay in Los Angeles might closely resemble the late night hours of a Vegas call girl: ride it out for as long as it lasts, make some money, then part ways with a good story to tell. In other words, they see as Miller nothing more than a talented and high-priced rental for the Super Bowl-chasing Rams.
But LA general manager Les Snead is more interested in a relationship than a fling.
"We're actually looking at this from a standpoint of how soon can he help us, can he help us if we're fortunate enough to continue going and make the 2021 tournament, how can he help us there," Snead said, per Lindsey Thiry of ESPN. "And then there's a long-term vision for Von as well."
Snead acknowledged to Thiry that the team is "definitely willing" to explore future contract options with Miller and have already discussed that with his representation. Miller, 32, will make close to $10 million this season and is scheduled for unrestricted free agency following the 2021 campaign.
Los Angeles parted with second and third round picks in the 2022 draft to land Miller, Denver's all-time leader in sacks.
That's a high price to pay for what could potentially be a half-season worth of production, though it sounds like the Rams are more interested in paying for the full experience, not just a quickie.
