Raiders' Derek Carr, Rich Bisaccia Address Henry Ruggs Situation

Las Vegas Raiders coach Rich Bisaccia and quarterback Derek Carr addressed Wednesday former Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III's arrest and his involvement in a fatal car crash that occurred Tuesday morning.

The 22-year-old was booked Tuesday afternoon at the Clark County Detention Center and will face charges of DUI resulting in death and reckless driving, OutKick previously reported.

Ruggs made his initial court appearance on Wednesday morning where the district attorney said the former Raiders receiver was traveling at 156 mph about two seconds before the crash, traveling 127 mph when airbags deployed, and that his blood-alcohol level was 0.16.

The Raiders posted on social media they released Ruggs from the team Tuesday evening.

“First of all, we want to express our sincere condolences to the victim's family,” Bisaccia said in a Wednesday afternoon news conference. “A person lost their life yesterday morning, and we think it's important to keep focus on that as we talk about this tragic event. We're deeply saddened for everyone affected, especially the victim's family."

Bisaccia continued: "That being said, we love Henry Ruggs. We want him to know that. It's a terrible lapse in judgment, of the most horrific kind. It's something he'll have to live with the rest of his life. The gravity of the situation is not lost on anyone here, and we understand and respect the loss of life.”

Carr said his emotions have been on a "roller coaster" this year.

"My heart goes out so much ... to the family, to all the families involved. No one ever wants to see this, whether it's a football player or not, you never want to see something like this happen. It broke my wife and I's heart, honestly," Carr said. "We talked about it a little bit, but I can only talk about it so much."

Carr said he isn't the one to decide "whether it's fair or not," because he has "to compartmentalize, and I have a job to do."

"These are two totally different situations ," Carr responded when prompted by a question. "Some similar emotions, some very different emotions. But the message has to stay the same. Honestly, I don't want it to right now, if I'm selfish. ... I want to say a lot of different things, but we have a game this week, and I've got a job to do. And so do the guys in that locker room... I don't know the right way to handle it, but I'm doing my best.”

Carr said from a football aspect and competitive standpoint, the team will be ready to go and said they had a great practice.

"What a crazy year, through," he said.

Ruggs, a first-round pick out of Alabama in the 2020 Draft, had 469 reception yards and two touchdowns through seven games for the Raiders before they released him.
