Philly To Trade Carson Wentz?

The QB carousel has been spinning so fast that we've forgotten the first name mentioned back in the fall: Carson Wentz.

Wednesday, Adam Schefter updated the conversation and said if he were to predict, he'd guess Wentz is traded this offseason.

Wentz "wants to leave the franchise," Schefter said on the John Kincade Show. "OK, and that’s why the trade still is in play. Again, people wondering, 'Where did this stuff come from at the end of the year? Was it made up?' … This is all real. None of this is made up. And just because he would like to be moved or hasn’t commented, it doesn’t mean he will be.

“If I had to guess, I would guess he is traded. That would be my guess, OK, at some point this offseason. But again, they’re not going to trade him. They’re not looking to trade him.”

I want to be clear, Schefter is not reporting that Wentz will be traded. Sorry, Twitter accounts. He's merely repeating what has already been reported, that Wentz is unhappy, and he's predicting — key word — Wentz will be moved.

While the NFL discussion has mostly been about the QBs who could be moved this offseason, what's more interesting is the number of teams that need new QBs. Omit the Rams and Lions (for now). That leaves the Colts, Football Team, Bears, Panthers, Patriots, and Jets who all need new starters, and the 49ers, Broncos, Raiders, Dolphins, and Texans are all teams that may upgrade. That's 11 teams. Eleven. There will be a market for Wentz.

Wentz looked broken last season, yet he has previously shown star potential. I've said all year that Ryan Tannehill's career reset with the Titans changed the market value for both Wentz and Sam Darnold.

If he is traded, the Colts make the most sense. Frank Reich knows and likes Wentz, the team is a QB away from Super Bowl contention, and the Texans will not trade Watson to a division rival.

Though some reporters say Wentz likely won't be moved, Schefter's opinion — and that's all this is — was proven pretty valuable last year when he first said he thought Tom Brady could leave New England after the 2019-20 season.
