Phillip Lindsay Goes On COVID-19 List, Joining Rest Of Dolphins Backfield

Another day, another fully vaccinated NFL player tests positive for COVID-19.

This time, it's Dolphins running back Phillip Lindsay, who tested positive for the virus on Monday, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Lindsay joins the rest of Miami's backfield corps, Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed, on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

All three are vaccinated, meaning they would need to be asymptomatic and test negative twice at least 24 hours apart to return. The NFL has seen an uptick in positive COVID-19 tests, with 37 players alone being placed on the list Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

All three could very likely miss the Dolphins' (6-7) home matchup on Sunday against the Jets (3-10) at 1:00 p.m. on CBS. Miami currently has two running backs on its practice squad, Duke Johnson and Gerrid Doaks.

Johnson, the more experienced of the two, will likely see the bulk of the carries. Johnson ran for 18 yards on four carries in Week 11 against the Jets, his only game action of 2021. In seven career seasons, Johnson has racked up 1,949 rushing yards. Doaks, meanwhile, was a seventh-round selection in this year's NFL Draft and has yet to play in a game. Miami ranks 31st in the NFL in rushing offense, averaging just 79.2 yards per game.
