Pete Carroll Says Seahawks Selected Jamal Adams With Their First Round Pick

Most NFL teams have a lot of work to do over the next few days. With the 2021 NFL Draft finally here, it's time to make the necessary moves to try and improve the overall talent on the roster. Some will have more work to do than others though.

For example, the Philadelphia Eagles have 11 picks in this year's draft. That's enough to keep them busy heading into the weekend. The Seattle Seahawks, on the other hand, will have only three picks to make.

Why? Because they acquired safety Jamal Adams from the New York Jets last summer in exchange for some first and third-round picks for this year. That makes for a lackluster draft for Seahawks fans, but Coach Pete Carroll wants to remind Seahawks faithful what they got in exchange.

"I would say, about the draft, our No. 1 pick is Jamal Adams, and that's a heck of a pick," Carroll said, via the team's official website. "He had a really good year leading into getting drafted by us No. 1, and it would have cost us another No. 1 to get that done, that incredible of a football player we saw last year, and we're really excited about the future too."

Carroll makes a fair point. Instead of taking a chance on an unknown rookie, Seattle landed a known playmaker who has helped their defense try to get back to Super Bowl form. Has he been enough to make that happen? Not yet, but he's an important piece of the puzzle.

Granted, he also came with a hefty contract, while rookies often come cheap by comparison. However, even with the significant salary cap hit, it doesn't sound like the Seahawks regret making the decision.
