Pete Carroll Identifies Possible Breakout Star On Seahawks Offense

With star quarterback Russell Wilson under center, the Seattle Seahawks have consistently fielded a good offense over the last several years. Has it been great? Not all the time, but for the most part, the offense has been effective.

After a hot start to last season, Seattle finished around the middle of the pack, No. 17 in total offense. They have since added a few new faces to that side of the football, including new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

To keep Wilson happy, the Seahawks also made several offseason additions via free agency and the draft. They had only three picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, so it was limited on that front. But two of those three picks were spent on improving the offense.

During a recent interview with 710 ESPN Seattle, head coach Pete Carroll mentioned a player he thought could be a breakout candidate for the offense.

Carroll thinks the newly-signed tight end from the Los Angeles Rams, Gerald Everett, is going to be that breakout guy. He could've selected Freddie Swain, Will Dissly, Rashaad Penny or many other newbies or veterans. Nope, Carroll thinks Everett could be the X-factor next season.

"Oh, I think you’re going to be really excited to see Gerald Everett,” Carroll told 710 ESPN Seattle. "This is I think the fanciest, sweetest-looking receiver/tight end mix that we’ve had. He’s like a wide receiver, he’s got terrific after-the-catch run ability, really aggressive and he’s a good blocker, too, and he knows the system inside and out. What Gerald brings us is a real threat in the throwing game. Should be a big factor on third down."

Carroll is absolutely right.

Everett could very well be an underrated addition for Wilson and that Seahawks offense. The former second-round pick doesn't have the typical size that we so often see at the position, but he can move and has receiver-like skills. For Wilson and Waldron, that's absolutely huge.

Seattle has plenty of capable weapons already: DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Chris Carson. But adding that dynamic threat at tight end could help the offense remain explosive over the course of the entire season.
