Penei Sewell 'Acts Like a Grown Man' Already, Teammate Says
Former Oregon left tackle Penei Sewell opted out of the 2020 season and yet was still drafted by the Detroit Lions. He may have a steep learning curve to adjust to, but Lions guard Jonah Jackson says the rookie has put in work this off season.
“They say he’s a 20-year-old, but he acts like a grown man with how he handles himself,” Jackson said.
The Lions took Sewell with the seventh overall pick of the draft, and they expect him to be their starter at right tackle, come game time. Jackson said it's clear why the team selected him in the first round with how hard the o-lineman works.
“Not only the meetings but outside on the field," Jackson said. "Definitely on the field you see why he was the No. 7 overall pick. It’s very evident and I’m excited for his future and what’s to come for him.”
Jackson said the Lions' offensive line is “the engine to the car” on offense and that Sewell hitting the ground running could add horsepower to the attack.
The 2021 Detroit Lions Training Camp will open at the team's headquarters and training facility in Allen Park, MI beginning July 31, and fans can attend. More information can be found at the team's website.
