Packers Won't Franchise Tag RB Aaron Jones, Still Working On Long Term Deal With Back
The Green Bay Packers must have a lot of faith in running back Aaron Jones, as the team has stated they are NOT going to franchise him.
The 26-year-old is set to enter the prime years of his career, and in the impressive 12-4 season for the Pack last year, he raced to 1,104 yards and nine scores.
Clearly if Jones hits the open market in free agency next week, he is going to get PLENTY of action from other clubs.
In four seasons with the Packers, who drafted him in the 5th round (182nd pick overall) in 2017, Jones has been excellent, upping his stats from 400 yards rushing to 700, to 1,000, to just over 1,100 this past season.
He's also got a great feel for the end zone. In his four seasons, he's rushed for a very respectable 37 scores.
The Packers also have benefitted from Jones' ability to catch passes. Overall, he has 131 catches for 1,057 yards and six scores.
Prior to Jones taking over as the team's lead back, Jamaal Williams led the Packers in rushing back in 2017, going for 556 yards and four scores.
The Packers are currently $11 million over the cap, meaning that they and Jones have a lot of work to do to come up with a deal before he gets offers elsewhere.
