Packers’ Davante Adams Expected To Get ‘Massive’ New Deal

Regardless of who’s throwing passes in Green Bay, Packers receiver Davante Adams expects to cash in in a big way. With training camps opening later this month, reports have surfaced that signing the All-Pro to a contract extension is a priority for the Packers organization. Per his report on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Jeremy Fowler expects Adams’ likely new deal to be “massive”:

"Davante Adams and the Packers are expected to try to come to an agreement on a massive contract extension. He will likely be the highest-paid receiver in the league at some point. Most evaluators I talk to believe he is the very best at that position right now. So, he's a priority for the Packers, whether Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback or Jordan Love. The problem is Rodgers' contract has been an albatross for that team, it's hindered them from doing some other contracts and things they want to do with the team-building standpoint. So, they've got to shake that out first. They're willing to give Rodgers probably whatever he wants right now."

Adams, who led the NFL with 18 touchdown receptions in 2020, is entering the final year of a four-year $58 million contract that he signed prior to the 2018 season.

Though the quarterback situation in Green Bay remains unsettled, the Pack can take comfort knowing that their signal caller will have one of the league’s best security blankets on hand in Adams. He previously told Bleacher Report: "I'm not planning on going anywhere.”

He continued by touching on the quarterbacks and the looming contract extension: “Obviously the quarterback situation helps it, but the stars got to align across the board as far as contractually. We'll figure all that stuff out and let it happen. I'll be at training camp like I said regardless, we're going to play the season, and we'll see how all of that pans out."

In addition to his league-leading 18 touchdowns, Adams hauled in 115 passes in just 14 games a season ago. Should the massive contract extension happen, there’s a good chance Adams will also lead the league in average yearly salary for a wide receiver. That title currently belongs to Arizona’s DeAndre Hopkins, who’s scheduled to earn more than $27 million in 2021.
