NFL Insider: Carson Wentz isn’t Being Attacked Because He’s White
A CBS Sports "NFL expert" -- who has evidently never watched TV, read the internet, or listened to the radio -- wrote Thursday that Carson Wentz is escaping criticism because he's white. Jonathan Jones, the column says his name is, couldn't think of anything newsworthy to write, so he made up a narrative and a reason for it.
Jones finds it "audacious" that Wentz isn't getting "lambasted" for his actions this season, though it's not clear who should be doing the lambasting. His teammates? The executives who will likely try to trade him? Other NFL owners? That'd be strange.
Perhaps Jones would like the media to bring down the hammer on Wentz. If so, then he must have forgotten or ignored:
Max Kellerman ripping Wentz for "pouting."
Keyshawn Johnson calling him "sensitive."
Yahoo saying Wentz needs to "grow up."
Tiki Barber claiming: “Carson Wentz is being perhaps the worst teammate you could possibly be – ever."
Rex Ryan calling Wentz "hot garbage" and a "baby."
It's a good thing Jones is here to push back against the easy media coverage Wentz has received, writing that: "instead of getting roasted, Wentz is having people bend over backwards trying to figure out how he can get out of his contract and get on another team. It's baffling."
Baffling. It appears Rex Ryan went too soft in comparing Wentz to a "baby playing like garbage." How unfortunate. Hopefully next time, Tiki Barber doesn't hold back.
Jones is also bothered Wentz got paid and might have a small market.
"One agent referenced to me an idea that's been floated where Wentz could pay back the prorated portions of his signing bonus to the Eagles. 'But who in their right mind would do that at the pre-tax amount?,' the agent asked rhetorically."
Wentz benefits from white privilege so much that he got benched, crushed by the media, and has such poor market value that he may have to give some money back. Sucks to see everything going right for a guy like Wentz.
"If Cam Newton did this..." is Jones' final hypothetical, but he never finishes it. So I will. Under that scenario, I think Newton would've been benched, called mean names by former players on TV, and eventually cut or traded. So, pretty much the exact same treatment Wentz has received.
