New York Jets OL Mekhi Becton Could Miss Season Due To Knee Injury: Report

There's major panic in the Big Apple.

Monday's training camp was full of injury talk after New York Jets right tackle Mekhi Becton went down with a lower leg injury.

Further testing on Becton's right knee revealed a patella injury that could sideline Becton for the entirety of the upcoming season.

OutKick's ProFootballDoc relayed via Twitter: "Fracture / chip of kneecap won't end his season but the inevitable patella realignment procedure will."

Early reports from Jets camp relayed that the team was concerned over the severity of the injury upon evaluation. Becton was seen limping throughout practice before being pulled early.

Before the MRI on Monday, Jets coach Robert Saleh commented on Becton's injury. He called it a "stable" at the time.

Becton will receive further testing on Tuesday. Monday's injury was disconnected from his last season's trip to the IR after suffering cartilage damage to his right knee, which later required surgery.

The 2020 first-round pick proves effective on the offensive line, but his injury status has so far defined his time in the League. Becton — standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing around 364 lb. — was a lauded prospect out of Louisville due to his size and speed.

Losing Becton for a significant stretch will be damning for Jets quarterback Zach Wilson and trending offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker, who had a solid rookie campaign in 2021.

OutKick's Armando Salguero detailed New York's bad day at practice on Monday, accentuated by Becton's injury.

NEW YORK JETS AND GIANTS HAD A DAY AS THEY STRUGGLE TO CORRECT COURSE

Salguero writes: "There was a significant concern this morning that the team's offensive line plans were possibly collapsing when prospective starting right tackle Mekhi Becton went down in a heap on the field after a run play."
