Lock It Down: Broncos QB Eager To Impress In First Start Of The Season

Nearly three full seasons into his NFL career, Broncos quarterback Drew Lock’s most memorable on-field moment took place about 15 yards behind the white lines (more on that later). Now, as he readies for his first start of the season, the QB’s aiming to lock down a more permanent starting role.

“…it’s time to put it all together and go show that I am a better quarterback than I was,” Lock said earlier this week, referencing what he’s learned as the backup to starter Teddy Bridgewater.

 

With Bridgewater injured, Lock’s been handed the keys to the Broncos offense. “I woke up with a big smile on my face (Wednesday) morning, being able to come out here and be the guy this week for this team,” Lock said earlier this week. “There’s a lot that I’ve learned being in that backup role, and what exactly it takes to be able to come out and win a football game. I learned a lot of that from Teddy.”

Lock has 18 career starts, but none this year, largely due to his uneven play (24 touchdowns, 20 interceptions). His most notable sequence in a Broncos uniform came almost exactly two years ago when he used his time on the sideline to drop some bars.

The 25-year old former second-round pick is eager to give his teammates something positive to rap about on Sunday afternoon versus the Raiders. “I’m excited to be able to throw to these (receivers) during the week, call plays in the huddle, let these guys see my face there,” said Lock.

For Denver’s sake, let’s hope the quarterback doesn’t pop, lock and drop the opportunity.
