Le'Veon Bell Released By New York Jets

Le'Veon Bell's time with the New York Jets has officially come to an end. The team released a statement by general manager Joe Douglas via Twitter on Tuesday night announcing the news.

The news doesn't come as much of a surprise, as the team was rumored to be shopping the former top free agent signee as recently as Tuesday. But as Douglas points out in the statement, the team could not find any suitors.

Bell had a short run with the team in 2020 after returning from the injured reserve prior to Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Once again, the Jets were handled en route to suffering their fifth-consecutive loss to fall to 0-5 on the season.

The Michigan State product led the team in carries (13) and rushing yards (60) in his return, but he was visibly upset with his role. In fact, Bell wouldn't even address the media following that loss, and he was found liking tweets criticizing his role in the offense.

It will be interesting to see where Bell ends up following his release.

In a similar situation earlier this offseason, former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette was released before eventually signing a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bell could end up finding himself in a similar situation with a more competitive team.
