Justin Tucker Hits 66-Yard GW FG Against Detroit, Setting New NFL Record
Baltimore Ravens placekicker Justin Tucker hit a 66-yard game-winning field goal against the Detroit Lions to elevate his team for the win as the clock expired, 19-17. The kick became the longest made field goal in NFL history.
The steel-toed opera singer, a leading contender for greatest kicker in NFL history, got the call all the way from mid field and with three seconds left in the game. Tucker's boot sent the ball and nearly fell short — hitting the crossbar and bouncing forward for the game-winning score.
Baltimore had a down performance after a thrilling Week Two win against the Kansas City Chiefs, 36-35, led by former MVP Lamar Jackson.
The Ravens QB aired the ball out for 287 yards (16-of-31) against Detroit, throwing for a touchdown and interception, also chipping in 58 yards rushing to lead the backfield. Opposing Lions QB Jared Goff held his own with a mistake-free performance: completing 22-of-30 passes for 217 yards, without a score or turnover for the day.
Prior to Tucker's record-setting kick, former Lions kicker Matt Prater held the record for longest field goal made: A 64-yarder during his tenure as a Denver Bronco.
