Journalist Suggests That Brian Flores Was Fired Because He's Black

We can all agree Brian Flores' firing in Miami made no sense, but USA Today's Mike Freeman claims he was fired because he's black. Of course he did.

Flores earned a 24-25 record as head coach in Miami and didn't make the playoffs once during his tenure. That said, when two of an organization's three winning seasons are under one coach and two of this season's wins are against Bill Belichick, that guy isn't the problem. Brian Flores led the team to seven straight wins this season and seemed like the solution. If you'd asked us preseason, nine wins for that roster in Miami would have sounded like a success. So what happened?

Well, Mike Freeman believes Flores would still have the job had he been white.

We'll chalk this one up to the polarizing environment Twitter has orchestrated. Media talking heads like Freeman disagree with a firing and then draw a baseless conclusion that divides America. Not every black coach who loses his job does so because of racism -- sometimes a team has their reasons and the general public isn't informed enough to figure out what those reasons are.

Rumors have surfaced that Flores wasn't getting along with players in the locker room. Of course, we have no way of confirming or denying those rumors, but it's a journalist's job to avoid drawing conclusions that can't be backed up by anything other than emotion. Mike Freeman is just another race-baiter who's gotten comfortable taking the easy way out of these nuanced coaching decisions.

And again, we disagree with Brian Flores' dismissal, but to conclude this was racially motivated is dismal reporting.
