Josh McDaniels Will Not Be Part of 'Patriots South' With the Texans

There was rampant speculation that with powerful team chaplain Jack Easterby -- formerly of the Patriots -- arranging for Nick Caserio to leave New England and become general manager of the Houston Texans, Josh McDaniels had to be the next piece of the puzzle. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, who is as plugged into the Texans as anyone, says that will not be the case:

According to McClain, Joe Brady, Marvin Lewis, and Jim Caldwell have already interviewed for the job. Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, and Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith could also be candidates.

Whoever winds up getting the job, this situation is going to be a tricky spot because the Texans' third overall pick is heading to the Dolphins from the Laremy Tunsil trade that was made by Bill O'Brien. Deshaun Watson signing long-term is a big plus, however, even if he is rightfully unhappy with the organization at this time.
