Jon Gruden Thinks There Is No Chance That The Texans Trade Deshaun Watson

On this week's episode of the Chris Collinsworth podcast with Richard Sherman, Raiders head coach Jon Gruden was asked about Deshaun Watson.

"I don't think there's any way in the world (the Texans trade him)," Gruden said.

Gruden got caught up in logic, but he forgets the Texans just gave up DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for a second-round pick. Logic and the Texans don't exactly go hand in hand.

"I personally look at this like a fantasy world," Gruden said. "They have a new GM who just went through a year in New England without Tom Brady. I think he has a pretty good idea just how important Deshaun Watson is to the Texans.

"I don't think there’s any way in the world they trade Deshaun Watson. And if they did, the compensation would be like seven No. 1 picks.

“I just think there’s a lot going on. Deshaun’s a great player. He’s a great kid, and I’m sure he’s very emotional right now for a number of reasons. I’ve got a lot of confidence in him that he’s going to be a great quarterback for a long time in Houston. He already signed that contract, and he’ll be a big part of that rebuild," Gruden concluded.

From start to finish, Jon Gruden is exactly right. He views trades from a fantasy perspective, much like we do, yet it seems the Texans don't. They make trades largely due to ego with no clear long-term goals in mind.

I mean, did they actually believe sending Hopkins to Arizona for a second-rounder would work out? One of the top QBs in the sport was spinning the football to one of the best receivers in football, and it still wasn't enough to warrant an extension? It's embarrassing.

What's really happening here is that Gruden is giving advice. When he says, "I don't think Texans GM Nick Caserio will do it," he really means, "There's no way he's that stupid." Hopefully Caserio hears what Gruden had to say and thinks twice before he ships Watson out for picks.
