JJ Watt: Cardinals’ Season A ‘Massive Failure’

Cardinals defensive end JJ Watt was keepin' it real after the Cards lost their first round playoff game against the LA Rams on Monday night. After starting the season 10-2, Arizona lost five of their final six games, prompting Watt to call the season a "massive failure."

"It was a massive failure, from what we were capable of doing, to what we showed we can do, to today," Watt said post game, via Darren Urban.

Watt injured his shoulder back in October but managed to return to the field Monday night for the first time in nearly three months -- just in time to get run over by the Rams, 34-11.

Watt, who returned from an injury that was supposed to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season, registered two tackles. But Watt alone couldn't slow a Rams offense that scored every quarter, while Arizona's offense was able to find the end zone only once.

"It was, for me, it was embarrassing. We put up an embarrassing performance. There's no other way to put it, really,'' Watt lamented.

Quarterback Kyler Murray, who put up a dud in his first career playoff game (137 yards, two picks, no touchdowns), didn't shy away from the veteran Watt's frank criticism.

"I agree. I play to win the Super Bowl," said Murray per Darren Urban.

Watt finished his injury-riddled first season in Arizona with just one sack and an early playoff exit. Including the signing bonus, he earned over $14 million this year and is slated to make another $11.5 million next season.

A massive failure indeed.
