Jets Expected To Trade Sam Darnold, Draft Quarterback

Well, may as well the New York Jets' Sam Darnold to the list of quarterbacks who are likely to be traded this offseason. And why not? It seems as if every other QB is already there.

Anyway, let's focus on Darnold for now. Per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Jets are looking to trade Darnold, then draft his replacement with the No. 2 overall pick. And No. 2 is better apparently better than No. 3, which is the pick the Jets used to draft Darnold back in 2018.

Yeah, it wasn't that long ago. But it seems as if the Jets are going to try to trade Darnold anyway.

And who might the Jets look to draft with the second overall selection? The answer comes from the usual list of suspects -- but mostly consists of BYU's Zach Wilson and Ohio State's Justin Fields. That is, of course, presuming the Jacksonville Jaguars really do take Clemson's Trevor Lawrence at No. 1. (Spoiler alert: They will.)

Darnold has been mostly mentioned as a possibility for the San Francisco 49ers, which just happens to be the former team of new Jets coach Robert Saleh. So it's safe to say Saleh still has connections in San Francisco after spending several seasons there coaching the defense.

But we will know about Darnold and what happens next for the Jets when the draft rolls around on April 29. According to Breer, the decision on Darnold has already been made.
