Jerry Jones A-OK With Mike McCarthy's Game Management

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy likely isn't moonlighting as a timekeeper, as all six of Dallas' games this season have featured a McCarthy clock management blunder or two. Cowboys fans can attest that game management isn't McCarthy's strong suit, though owner Jerry Jones disagrees.

"I don’t think I’ve ever been in a game that you can’t point to aspects of it that are iffy," Jones told the Shan and RJ Show on 105.3 The Fan. "And sometimes it has a good result, sometimes it doesn’t. But overall I’m right in there with Mike on his game management."

Though McCarthy's strategy, or lack thereof, sometimes drives Dallas fans mad, the Cowboys still sit comfortably atop the NFC East standings at 5-1, and Jones recognizes that McCarthy is hard at work.

"He does (game management) extremely well, but more importantly, I want all of our fans to know how conscientious about how hard he works on it, the detail of situational rehearsal and practice that he does," added Jones perThe Shan and RJ Show.

Make no mistake, Jones can hear the chatter from Cowboys fans, though he chalks that up as ordinary fan behavior. He tells Shan and RJ: "I think that’s part of being a fan and being interactive in the game is to make the call in our minds the way we want to make it or the way we think it should have done and the second-guessing and everything that goes with it; that endgame activity, that concentration on the game makes it beautiful.”

Fans will have to wait another week before laying their eyes on the beauty that is McCarthy's game management. Dallas has a bye this week and then returns to the field on Halloween evening in Minnesota.
