Jaguar Teammates Are All In On Trevor Lawrence And His 'Once-in-a-Generation' Arm
A former high-profile college quarterback is impressing in Jacksonville, and it’s not Tim Tebow. The top overall pick in April’s draft, Trevor Lawrence, is enjoying a quiet offseason as he preps for his first pro campaign. But don’t let the lack of media buzz fool you, he’s already impressing veteran teammates with what some are calling his "once-in-a-generation arm."
Jags linebacker Joe Schobert is singing Lawrence’s praises ahead of this month’s training camp, telling SiriusXM NFL Radio: “Trevor’s got an arm, a once-in-a-generation arm, and if he can put it together upstairs mentally for the rookie season in the NFL, which is always, as a quarterback, the hardest thing to do, (then) we’ll be very successful if we can get all that accomplished.”
After seeing Lawrence’s cannon arm up close, Schobert has to be breathing a sigh of relief. A veteran of five NFL seasons, Schobert spent the first four years of his career in Cleveland painfully watching signal callers like Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan and DeShone Kizer struggle for even minimal success under center. Prior to the 2020 season, Schobert signed with Jacksonville and laid eyes on a quarterback trio that rivaled Cleveland’s clown show: Gardner Minshew, Mike Glennon and Jake Luton. I don't know if Schobert drank before entering the league, but I'll bet he does now.
If Lawrence is able to master the mental side of the game, Jacksonville will finally have their long-term answer at the game’s most important position. “I think if he’s able to mentally put everything together, like picking up a new playbook, understanding teams, and going against different kinds of athletes on the defensive side of the ball, he can be an extremely good quarterback for the next, 10, 15, 20 years for Jacksonville. It’s going to be exciting to see how he progresses because he has all the tools and all the talent,” Schobert said via SiriusXM NFL Radio.
Schobert isn’t alone in projecting early success for the rookie QB. FanDuel Sportsbook has Lawrence as +270 to be named NFL Rookie of the Year.
