Is The NFL Looking To Squeeze A Game Into 'Black Friday'?
The NFL continues to look for ways to take up more of our time with games just about every day of the week.
That's not as far fetched as one may think.
Over the last decade, the NFL has expanded with Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, and even three games on Thanksgiving instead of two.
There has even been some chatter about adding more games on Christmas Day after the success it had last year. The Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints played that day to solid TV numbers.
Now the league is considering playing on a day that isn't even a 'holiday,' but a day that just about all of America has off - Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
It's a day when many Americans run up their credit and stores get rid of stuff by offering insanely low prices. Now if the NFL has its way, it will also be a day for more pro football.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft said that, now that the NFL has negotiated broadcasting rights with Amazon, putting a game on Amazon the day after Thanksgiving would be a win-win for everyone.
“Amazon wanted more from us, and they’ll dedicate tremendous resources to make this work for them and for us,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft told Peter King of Football Morning in America.
“Who knows? Maybe we’ll play a game on Black Friday, their biggest shopping day of the year.”
Sure there are things the NFL would have to do to make it happen - like worry about competitive imbalance in the league with teams playing just about every day.
The bottom line though is that, if the NFL wants it, they will find a way to make it happen.
