Iowa State Coach Matt Campbell Not Expected To Interview For New York Jets Job

The New York Jets are still in the process of looking for a new head coach after Adam Gase was dismissed, but one potential candidate that won't be talking to them about the position is Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic states that Campbell isn't going to chat with the Jets, which is a 180 turn after Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com reported the Jets were "high" on Campbell and were anxious for a sit down.






LaCanfora reports that the Jets are also interested in the Colts' DC Matt Eberflus and the Bills' OC Brian Daboll.

Campbell might be waiting for a better offer, as he is coming off a season in which he led the Cyclones to a Fiesta Bowl win over Oregon and a solid 9-3 record.

He's been the coach of the year in the conference for three of the last four seasons.

The Jets went 2-14 in 2020, and will have the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, likely focusing on the quarterback spot looking to replace Sam Darnold.

One possible choice with the second overall draft choice for the Jets is Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, who will play for a National title on Monday night against Alabama.
