'Inside the NFL' Mutes Recorded Travis Kelce-Andy Reid Sideline Audio
"Inside The NFL" on CW aired audio footage of players mic'd up during the Chiefs-49ers Super Bowl on Sunday.
Travis Kelce was among the players to wear a mic for the game, according to the Daily Mail.
That would mean there's an audio recording of what Kelce shouted at Andy Reid when he angrily chest-bumped his coach on the sideline. However, the show cut out the audio of the incident while showing the moment on Tuesday.
Take a look:
"Inside The NFL" airs footage courtesy of NFL Films, a league-owned production company. The show airs what the NFL turns over to the producers.
It was the NFL, not CW, that muted the audio recording of Kelce’s fury.
The league is protecting Kelce. The NFL doesn’t want the unbecoming episode from one of its biggest stars to garner any more attention than it already has.
The audio, presumably profanity-laced, would have furthered the focus on the sideline moment.
Even Kelce admitted his judgment was "unacceptable." He looked like an unhinged buffoon screaming and shoving his 65-year-old head coach.
Still, there’s a chance someone in the league office will leak the audio to TMZ or some sports blog.
So look out for that.
The incident stems from Reid taking Kelce out of the game for rest in the second quarter during a play in which his backup, Noah Gray, failed to pick up a block which led to a red zone fumble.
The Chiefs and Reid may have benched a lesser player for bumping into him. But the team needed Kelce, without any other reliable receiving option for Patrick Mahomes.
Despite a one-catch, one-yard first half –- Kelce finished the Super Bowl as the game's receiving leader with nine grabs for 93 yards.
Reid told reporters on Tuesday that he and Kelce talked about the snafu. He said they are "all good" but doesn’t expect to be shoved again.
