Indianapolis Colts Send All-Pro Guard Quenton Nelson To IR
The Indianapolis Colts are sending former No. 6 pick and All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson to IR due to an ankle injury — signaling a rough road ahead for Frank Reich's winless team.
Fluctuating between healthy and hindered after an offseason foot injury, Nelson will officially be sidelined due to a high ankle sprain sustained in Week 3's matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
Experiencing injuries on the offensive line with a hobbling Braden Smith and Eric Fisher, Indy recently brought in former Tennessee Titans first-rounder Isaiah Wilson for a workout. Wilson went on to sign with the New York Giants.
Nelson's backup, Chris Reed, looks to take up the mantle — while a number of free agents may intrigue the Colts to dig into the free agency bargain bin to tighten up protection for a backsliding and brittle Carson Wentz.
David DeCastro, Nick Easton and JR Sweezy are a number of potential free agents that may get a call from Indy GM Chris Ballard — though an upcoming matchup against the Miami Dolphins' meddling defensive line won't put much pressure on the Colts to make an immediate decision. The Dolphins have four sacks for the season, landing in the bottom five of NFL defenses.
