Giants Legend Lawrence Taylor Arrested Over Failing To Register As A Sex Offender
This is one instance where Cowboys rookie Micah Parsons doesn’t want to be compared to NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor. The 62-year old Taylor was arrested late last week and charged with two felonies for failing to register as a sex offender.
Taylor’s been registered as a sex offender since 2011.
For most of the last two weeks, Parsons, the unquestioned best player on 10-4 Dallas’ defense, has been compared to Taylor because of their similar style of play and the immediate impact each made as rookies.
Per Andy Slater of Fox Sports 640, Taylor is accused of not letting authorities know he changed his address. That is something registered sex offenders are required to do. His arrest came shortly before 9pm Thursday in Florida.
LT’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, told TMZ: "Lawrence Taylor has been compliant with all of the rules and regulations regarding his legal status for the past decade. Sadly, he is in the middle of a divorce and his local police department suggested it would be best if he slept at a nearby hotel."
Aidala then expressed his belief that all charges against Taylor will quickly be dropped. "Mr. Taylor was constantly a resident of the marital home where he was registered, but on advice of local law enforcement he was sleeping outside the home,” said Aidala. “We are confident that this will be dismissed at the first court hearing."
As a player, Taylor won two Super Bowls, Defensive Rookie of the Year, claimed an MVP award, earned Defensive Player of the Year recognition three times, and was named All-Pro 10 times. Off the field, he’s had multiple run-ins with the law. Among them: arrests for drugs, domestic violence, DUI, and prostitution.
Fortunately for Micah Parsons, he and LT don’t appear to share the same off-field interests.
