Former Texans Coach On J.J. Watt: 'He's Selfish, Only Cared About His Stats'
There was shock around the NFL on Monday when the biggest free agent on the market, former Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, announced he was signing with the Arizona Cardinals.
Watt's signing with Arizona came out of nowhere, and the Cardinals stepped up with a massive two-year deal worth $31 million.
There's been rumblings for weeks about Watt wanting to play right away for a Super Bowl contender. The Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans were all reportedly in the mix for Watt.
When it came out that Watt had gotten an offer for $14-16 million from a team, it was becoming obvious that he was really trying to cash in and get as much money as possible.
Then Monday afternoon, Josh Reed, the sports director at WIVB in Buffalo, came out with some interesting comments about Watt and a conversation he had with a member of the Houston Texans coaching staff.
Here are the Twitter comments from Reed: "I spoke to someone who was on the Texans coaching staff with Watt and the review wasn't glowing. 'He's selfish, only cared about his stats', 'he does a lot of things that hurts the defense', 'he hurt us more than he helped us', and finally 'I wouldn't want him'"
We will see if the Cardinals regret signing Watt, or if the former coach of the Texans who gave those comments to Reed is simply crying over spilled milk.
