Former Rams Great Says Team Should Add Todd Gurley To Take Cam Akers' Spot

The Los Angeles Rams were dealt a big blow this week when it was announced that running back Cam Akers had suffered a torn Achilles which ended his season before it ever started.

While there are options out there to fill the void left by Akers, one former Ram says that the team should get on the phone with former running back Todd Gurley.

Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, formerly of the Rams, says that Gurley, who remains a free agent and has yet to ink with any club, would be a perfect fit in Akers' absence.

"That’s a no-brainer," Dickerson told TMZ of bringing back Gurley.

"I mean, he knows the offense, he knows this offense. He doesn’t have to come in and try and learn it."

"He knows McVay, he knows the guys on the team -- that would be an easy fit."

Gurley was a superstar with the Rams early in his career, playing five seasons with the Rams and rushing for a combined 30 touchdowns in 2017 and 2018.

He was let go last offseason and eventually inked with the NFC South's Atlanta Falcons. Last season, he rushed for 678 yards and nine scores with the Falcons.

"At the end of the day, football, this is business," Dickerson said. "That’s what it comes down to. You got to make business decisions."

"You got to make decisions that are good for the football team, and the player has to make decisions that’s best for him."

Whoever the Rams give a majority of their carries to will likely be on a one-year deal, as the team is expected to go back to Akers in 2022 when he recovers from the injury.
