Former NFL Player And Coach Dan Reeves Dead At 77
Former NFL running back and head coach Dan Reeves passed away Saturday at the age of 77, per multiple reports.
Reeves' family released a statement through the Falcons and said that he died of complications from dementia.
"His legacy will continue through his many friends, players and fans as well as the rest of the NFL community," the family said, via ESPN.
A Super Bowl champion as a player with the Cowboys in 1972, Reeves is known for his time as head coach of the Broncos (1981-92), Giants (1993-96) and Falcons (1997-2003). He led Denver to the Super Bowl on three occasions (86', 87', 89'), and once with Atlanta (98'), but never prevailed.
His 22-year coaching career ended with a 201-174-2 record, just one of nine coaches to reach 200 wins in NFL history. Falcons owner Arthur Blank, who purchased the team in 2002, offered his condolences through a statement.
"Dan Reeves leaves a lasting legacy in our game as a player and coach. His track record of success in Dallas, Denver, New York and Atlanta over several decades speaks for itself, marking a long and successful life and career in football," Blank said. "On behalf of the Atlanta Falcons I extend our condolences to Dan's family and friends as they mourn his passing."
The Broncos also released a statement via Twitter, praising Reeves for what he accomplished in Denver.
"We're saddened by the passing of Ring of Fame Head Coach Dan Reeves, who led us to three Super Bowl appearances," the statement reads. We send our sincerest condolences to his family."
