Former NFL GM Compares Jaguars To Star-Studded NBA Team, Seriously

Let’s hope Mike Tannenbaum adheres to the puff, puff, pass method. Because I want some of what he’s smoking. Earlier this week the former NFL GM compared the lowly Jaguars to an NBA team. Not a cellar dweller like Detroit or Sacramento. Nope. Tannenbaum likened Jacksonville to… the Golden State Warriors.

Breath that in.

“This reminds me of when Steve Kerr went to the Warriors and he had the foundation there, they made a couple of tweaks, and the rest is history,” Tannenbaum said earlier this week on ESPN’s “Get Up.”

Who doesn’t lay (bloodshot) eyes on Marvin Jones, Laviska Shenault Jr., and Ray-Ray Armstrong and immediately think -- Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green?

Tannenbaum insisted to his co-hosts and viewers alike that Jacksonville isn’t just the east coast version of Golden State, but also a free-agent destination. His half-baked thought process was centered largely around the potential of the Jags’ rookie quarterback.

“Jacksonville is a historically great opening because of Trevor Lawrence’s contract,” said Tannenbaum. “The day I get that job, I’m getting (star Packers receiver) Davante Adams on the phone, saying ‘congratulations, you’re a Jacksonville Jaguar.’ I am not getting off the phone.”

At 2-12, the Jaguars are currently the NFL's worst team. Tannenbaum continued: “This is a team that should be in the playoffs next year."

Record aside, he certainly has a high opinion of Jacksonville.
