Former Giants Players Air Out Disapproval Of GM Dave Gettleman's History With Team

On Sunday, 24 total passing yards became emblematic of the aimless direction affecting the New York Giants, going on several years.

Splitting the blame three ways this season, Giants fans are at their boiling point with the team's decision-makers: including owner John Mara, head coach Joe Judge and general manager Dave Gettleman.

On Sunday, the Giants fell to 4-12 on the season with a 29-3 loss against Andy Dalton's Chicago Bears (6-10).

A weekly outpour of frustration with the current state of the Giants ensued and two former players voiced their disapproval of Gettleman's run as GM since 2018 — which several outlets predict will be capped by the end of the season.

Former Giants tight end Scott Simonson (who joined the team in 2018) tweeted out a critique of Gettleman's 19-45 track record as general manager for Big Blue. He also threw in a jab at Gettleman's character to truly make him sound irredeemable.

"Dave Gettleman is an atrocious GM and not a good person IMO," Simonson alleged. "The fact he’s had this much time to not be good at his job, while deciding others’ fates, and indebting one of the most historically respected franchises is embarrassing, and also a strong example of karma existing."

Simonson was a reserve for the majority of his tenure with the G-Men, relayed by Empire Sports Media's Alex Wilson, and was eventually released in February 2020.

Adding to Simonson's critique was former fullback Shane Smith. Smith played for the Giants between 2017-18. He quoted the tweet in agreement but later clarified that he has no issue with Gettleman's character.

Giants fans now wait and see if Gettleman will be the only member to get cut by the franchise or if Joe Judge's 10-22 record as of Week 17 will inspire Mara to clean house.
