Eagles To Bring Back Doug Pederson After Season Of Struggle Mercifully Concludes

It hasn't exactly been a banner season for Doug Pederson and his Philadelphia Eagles. Quite the opposite, actually.

But despite some speculation, Pederson will return as coach next season, per multiple reports. That makes sense, as Pederson is the man who coached them to playoff appearances in each of the three following seasons. This has just been a bad year.

Overall, he is 42-36-1 since taking over in 2016. But the Eagles are just 4-10-1 this year and the only thing they have left is a Sunday night matchup with the Washington Football Team. Washington needs a win to get in the playoffs, so keeping Washington out is about the only thing for which the Eagles are playing.

Pederson will be charged will figuring out who will play quarterback next season after replacing regular starter Carson Wentz with Jalen Hurts. Wentz was not good, but he remains under contract and the Eagles are paying him a lot of money. Hurts is undoubtedly more electric -- but the results have been about the same after he initially caught opponents off-guard.

As for the rest of the coaching staff, reports state that defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has an expiring contract and is expected to take at least next season off, if not retire altogether. There could be other changes on the staff as well.
