Eagles Shake Up Offensive Coaching Staff, Fire Marty Mornhinweg, Rich Scangarello

While Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is staying put in 2021, the Eagles coaching staff will have a different look next season.

Thursday ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that two coaches on expiring contracts won't be back in 2021, offensive assistant Rich Scangarello and senior offensive consultant Marty Mornhinweg.

That's three coaches now who won't be back with the Eagles in 2021, as defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz also won't be returning.

The team didn't have an offensive coordinator in 2020. Instead, the offense had a number of voices like Scangarello and Mornhinweg, along with Press Taylor (passing game coordinator) and Andrew Breiner (passing game analyst).

Pederson said before season's end that he felt that while having a few voices is good, having one that oversees everything on the offensive side might be the key to long term success.

"Really everybody has great ideas. That's part of putting plans together," Pederson said.

"But at the end of the day, I want to make sure there's one voice, and that's my voice that's heard offensively and nobody else's."

The variety of voices may be part of the reason that the offense declined in 2020. Carson Wentz had his worst season as a pro, throwing 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions with a 49.7 quarterback rating.

It wouldn't be a surprise if the team were on the lookout for a full-time OC this offseason to assist with play calling and Pederson's duties.
