Doug Marrone Out in Jacksonville, Zac Taylor Keeps Job in Cincinnati

Doug Marrone has been fired as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, while the Cincinnati Bengals have announced that they are retaining head coach Zac Taylor for a third season.

Neither of these pieces of news is hugely surprising. We've known for most of the year that it was a matter of when and not if Marrone was out, and now all of a sudden Jacksonville has a very attractive opening, considering that they hold the first overall pick that is widely presumed to be Trevor Lawrence. Here was the statement on Marrone from Jags owner Shad Khan:

Urban Meyer has been heavily rumored to be the frontrunner for the Jacksonville job.

Meanwhile, Bengals owner Mike Brown announced the retention of Zac Taylor:

This isn't a surprise, even though the Bengals are 6-25-1 in two years with Taylor. This season went up in smoke when Joe Burrow tore his ACL. Another franchise might have gone in a different direction here, but the Bengals move more deliberately in all facets. For Taylor to make it to a fourth season, Brown and the front office must make it a priority to get multiple offensive linemen who can prevent Burrow from getting battered week in and week out.
