DK Metcalf Is Closest Thing To Randy Moss Since Moss Tore Up The NFL

DK Metcalf's game-winning touchdown catch Sunday night with 20 seconds remaining against the Minnesota Vikings has people around the NFL questioning why their favorite team's general manager passed on the receiver, letting him drop all the way to the 64th pick in the 2019 draft. It's not an overreaction to think we're seeing the evolution of Metcalf into Randy Moss reincarnated.

The stats tell us the story.

In the last 25 years, players with 1,350 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns and 17 yards per reception in their first 21 games: Randy Moss & DK Metcalf. 

Need more stats to prove Metcalf was an incredible pick and is on track to make NFL history? Metcalf is on pace for 1600-plus receiving yards, 16 touchdowns, and 86 receptions. An 18.6 yards per catch average would put Metcalf right with Moss' incredible rookie season that saw him put up 19 yards per catch.

It's too early to predict Metcalf's career. No one knows if he'll put up 23 touchdown catches at 30 like Moss was able to do with Tom Brady. But it's not too early to think the Metcalf-Russell Wilson duo could go on a run and dominate the NFL for the next six or seven years.

“I saw DK run across the field and just try to zoom it in there to him and tight window, and he just made an unbelievable catch, unbelievable play,’’ Wilson said.

Pete Carroll heaped plenty of praise on Metcalf--who had six catches, 93 yards and two touchdowns--after the comeback win over Minnesota.

"It's been about hard work, commitment to getting right so that he can have the confidence that it takes to make those kinds of plays. He totally believes in himself, and he's building up a reservoir of reasons why he should, and he continues to make things happen," Pete Carroll said after the game.

"He has a great partner in Russ, who believes in him and trusts him, which also adds. We all need to be supported. DK is getting a lot of support from us because we know how good he is too. As he continues to log these experiences and puts them in his back pocket, he gets stronger and stronger and stronger. He's just going to keep getting better. Marvelous playing tonight."

DK Metcalf is going to get even better. Stop and think about that today.
