Detroit Lions Reportedly Close To Snagging GM Kevin Colbert From Pittsburgh

The Detroit Lions front office could be getting a massive boost with the hiring of one of the most respected general managers in the game.

97.1 The Ticket's Mike Stone reports that the Lions are closing in on acquiring Pittsburgh Steelers GM Kevin Colbert.

"I’m not confident enough to say it’s done or to say breaking news, but a source has told me that the Lions have offered the gig to Kevin Colbert, and it’s close," Stone said.

The Steelers will have an opportunity to counter offer before Colbert can take a job with any team, but you can bet that the Lions are going to offer a boatload to try and land Colbert.

The Lions and Colbert do have a history, as he was the team's director of pro scouting for Detroit from 1990-99.

During those years Colbert was a big part of leading the Lions to six playoff appearances. He left Detroit to be the Steelers GM in 2000.

The Steelers have been one of the most stable organizations with Colbert at the helm, winning two Super Bowls, appearing in another, and taking home 10 division titles.

With Colbert's contract set to expire in a month, it might be time for the Lions to make him an offer before he hits the front office free agent market.
