Derek Carr, Raiders Headed Towards Extension
The Raiders and quarterback Derek Carr appear to be headed towards an extension, and this shouldn't surprise a soul. Twenty-seven touchdowns with just nine INTs usually results in a continued partnership, so why divorce now?
Maybe now's the perfect time to commit to grabbing some playmakers for Carr to work with? Just a thought.
Nothing's set in stone yet, but for those who were paying attention, the answer was right in front of us all along:
This suggests that the Raiders weren't even listening to offers for Carr. That would all line up if the team had intentions with Carr past 2020. Hopefully the Raiders build a team around him soon so they can make a run at that Wild Card.
The team likely understands that Kansas City gets most of their offensive line back in 2021, and there's no sense in trying to win the division when the team is maybe two or three moves away from playoff contention.
We also can't forget that Carr was a new man after Week 8. We can't quite put a finger on it, but when a quarterback has a top-3 passer rating in the second half--it's gotta mean something. At the very least, the Raiders have some momentum for when fans start to trickle into the Allegiant Stadium, and we can't wait to see it. Or maybe we just want to visit Vegas? Probably that, too.
