Could Jalen Hurts Quickly Become Eagles' Taysom Hill?

Crazed Eagle fans have been calling for Jalen Hurts during each of the last two weeks. Much to the chagrin of our Bobby Burack, Wentz has played terrible.

While it would be wildly unlikely to see the rookie unseat the veteran at this stage of the season, it is very viable that he could see the field more frequently -- and be used like he was last week.

Hurts made his NFL debut. He played three snaps. One at receiver, one in the slot, another at running back. At 6-foot-1, 223-lbs. it is not a bad way to get him onto the field, a la New Orleans Saints gadget player, Taysom Hill.

It sounded like it was a direction that Philadelphia may consider, that is according to head coach Doug Pederson.

“It’s a week-to-week decision, quite frankly, based on opponent, based on the game plan and things like that,” he told NJ.com. “But the things we had in last week for him, he handled well and it’s a small drop in the bucket I think to probably getting his career off and running at some point.”

Last week against the Raiders Hill was on the field for just 19 total plays, down from his usual usage, with 14 on offense and five on special teams. But, it could be an ideal situation for breaking Hurts into the game flow.

It is a suggestion that tight end Dallas Geodert threw support behind.

"“He’s a great athlete,” Goedert told NJ.com on Thursday. “He’s going to draw attention with different things — moving him around. Teams know he can catch the ball and run with, he can catch the ball and he can throw it again if we throw (a lateral). I think he’s going to have a big part in freeing somebody up, that’s for sure.”

With receiver Jalen Raegor out, an offense that operates through its tight ends, and a deep running back room, having Hurts add some versatility may do enough to spark the offense.

Or it could at least quiet the crowd and buy Wentz more time.
