Colts Owner Jim Irsay Doubtful Andrew Luck Returns

The Indianapolis Colts are one team very much in the market for a quarterback for the 2021 season. The team lost QB Philip Rivers to retirement after one season under center.

The team has been trying to fill the quarterback role ever since franchise quarterback Andrew Luck retired unexpectedly in August 2019.

Since then, they've tried the likes of Jacoby Brissett, Brian Hoyer and Rivers. Rivers helped the Colts to an 11-5 mark and a Wild Card game in Buffalo, which ended in a tough three-point loss.

Luck's early retirement, no doubt, threw the team for a loop. They clearly were not ready for Luck to walk away after just six seasons as the Colts signal caller.

Since Rivers' retirement, some have speculated that Luck could be lured out of retirement. If he were, Colts fans and ownership hope that he could jump right back on the team and help solve their quarterback woes.

Colts owner Jim Irsay spoke to CBS 4 in Indianapolis on Thursday, and as he has said before, he does not see Luck making a return to the roster anytime soon.

“He’s more retired now than he was a year and a half ago,” Irsay said.

“Only Andrew knows, of course, because it’s his decision, but I can only say he definitely is retired, and there’s really no wiggle room or rumor or anything, as much as people would like to hear that.

"Believe me, I wish it was true and I was hiding some big announcement that could happen two days from now, but that’s just not the case.”

The speculation was fueled after Luck's wife reportedly sent text messages stating that her husband was interested in making a return to the NFL.

Irsay has been firm in his stance that he doesn't think Luck is going to return anytime soon, but anything can happen and there is nothing to say that Luck won't change his mind and decide to return to Indy to continue his playing career.
