Colin Cowherd's 2014 Tweet About Dak Prescott Is Back & It's Art
The year was 2014, and Colin Cowherd was watching No. 1 Mississippi State and Dak Prescott struggle against No. 4 Alabama and its defense in the first half. The Tide led 19-3 at halftime, and Cowherd fired off a tweet that looks like a piece of art in the Twitter Hall of Fame today now that Prescott is one of the highest-paid players in NFL history.
"Dak Prescott is a back up in the NFL. At tight end," Cowherd tweeted at the time. Prescott would end the game 27-of-48 for 290 yards passing with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He also had 82 rushing yards on 22 carries in the 25-20 loss.
"The Crimson Tide smothered Prescott, pressured him into making tough throws and played physically against his receivers," New York Times Tim Rohan wrote in his game report.
“Yeah, we had them,” Dak told reporters after the Bulldogs failed in its fourth-quarter comeback bid. “It was just stupid turnovers.”
Look, this is a piece of art out of Cowherd. He was working at ESPN and was paid to pull out the flamethrower and shake up the sports world. Dak was trying to win a Heisman and was the No. 1 target that Saturday for a hot taker like the Herd. So he fired away.
Now here we are in 2021, and the nerds are all about owning Colin over something from 2014. It's incredibly good for business and a work of art to leave these nuggets floating out there for the nerds to lose their minds over six years later when Dak signs a massive $126 million-guaranteed contract.
