Chris Johnson On Julio: 'Wish They Would Have Made Them Moves When I Was There'

Chris Johnson is one of only eight NFL rushers to top 2,000 yards in a single season. The former Tennessee Titans running back did it back in 2009, and we've seen only two of those eight since. The first was Adrian Peterson in 2012, and the other was Derrick Henry this past season.

Henry rushed for 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, making him the top running back in the NFL by a wide margin. But now the Titans have added another dynamic weapon to their offense, wide receiver Julio Jones. Johnson believes that's going to make Henry's job that much easier.

Here's what CJ2K recently had to say about Tennessee's new offense under current general manager Jon Robinson:

"I wish I could've played there when we had that GM," Johnson told TMZ Sports. "They doing what they got to do to win games."

Well, that's a direct shot at Mike Reinfeldt, the team's general manager from 2007-11, and Ruston Webster, who was there the last two years that Johnson was with the Titans.

Putting those fired shots aside, the 2009 Offensive Player of the Year makes a point. Robinson is swinging for the fences, trying to put Tennessee over the top.

Johnson also talks about how Henry will benefit from having Julio opposite emerging star AJ Brown in the passing game. His biggest question: how do you stop that trio consistently?

“There’s no way you can put 8, 9 in the box on Henry,” Johnson told TMZ. “You got Julio on the outside. You got A.J. on the other side. So, you can’t stack the box or anything like that. It’s like… Man, it’s crazy.”

He’s absolutely right. Teams have stacked the box consistently against Henry since he became the full-time starter a few years ago. Has that stopped him? No. He’s produced 3,567 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns in just the last two seasons alone.

But with the NFL now moving to a 17-game regular season schedule and Julio now in the mix, we shouldn’t be surprised if Henry’s numbers look even better this season. That especially holds true if he continues to push towards averaging 25 carries per game. He averaged 23.6 carries in 2020.
