Chris Godwin And Buccaneers Not Agreeing On Long-Term Deal, Deadline At 4pm

Today is the day that players around the NFL have to come to terms with their franchises or will play the 2021 season on a one-year deal.

Thus, there could be a lot of activity before the 4pm deadline, or it could just be a quiet afternoon as players stand their ground.

One such player is Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin, who last season pulled in 740 yards and seven scores for the Super Bowl champions.

It felt like an extension for the fifth-year pro was inevitable, but now suddenly it's all very much up in the air.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday night that the two sides are unlikely to reach a long-term extension before the 4pm deadline.

Earlier this offseason, Godwin did sign the franchise tag. The tag for wide receivers this season means the wide out will make a salary of $15.983 million, which is fully guaranteed.

The two sides were reportedly speaking about an extension on Wednesday, but for now there's been no movement. So if a deal doesn't get done this afternoon, Godwin will play this season on the franchise tag.

Tampa Bay is currently under $500,000 in 2021 salary cap space.
