Chargers RB Austin Ekeler Misses Practice With Hamstring Injury

Austin Ekeler's season ended after 10 games last year due to injury, but the 26-year-old has been working to make his return in 2021.

That's why it was such a shock when Ekeler's name appeared on the team's first injury report of the season on Wednesday, as he sat out from practice with a hamstring injury.

The Chargers are slated to play the Washington Football Team on Sunday. If Ekeler can't go, look for Justin Jackson to get a chance to carry the ball at the running back spot.

“He’s been active on offense and in the kicking game,” Chargers coach Brandon Staley said about Jackson.

“He’s really made a nice recovery from that groin (injury). I’m really proud of him and in his response to that injury."

The team may also turn to RBs Joshua Kelley and rookie Larry Rountree III as well.

In 2020, Ekeler rushed for 530 yards and one TD, and also caught 54 passes for 403 yards and a pair of scores.
