CB Stephon Gilmore 'Open' To Coming Back To New England With An Extension

New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore isn't exactly racing to get out of Foxborough, and reports say that he just might want to ink a deal to stick around.

Albert Breer of SI reports that Gilmore, who is set to make $7 million this year, is "very open" to signing an extension with the Patriots.

This is quite a turnaround. Just recently, it sounded like the Patriots would trade Gilmore because the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year wouldn't ink an extension.

Breer spoke about Gilmore in his latest 'Monday Morning Quarterback' column:

If the Patriots think Gilmore has, say, three more good years left in him (and they know better than anyone else how the 30-year-old has taken care of his body) and they don’t want to pay promising young corner J.C. Jackson like a premier DB, you can certainly see where it’d make sense. I’m also told, for what it’s worth, that Gilmore would be very open to signing a new deal in New England.

The Patriots corner is entering the last year of a deal that is paying him $65 million. It was the deal that he and New England agreed upon back in 2017.

Making only $7 million this season, it makes sense for Gilmore to get a deal done now.
